Installation¶

Songcards 0.0.8 is a desktop application for 64-bit Windows.

The installer filename for this release package is:

Songcards_0.0.8_x64-setup.exe

Before you run the installer¶

Songcards 0.0.8 is not digitally signed.

Because there is no code-signing certificate attached to this installer, Windows may identify the publisher as unknown and Microsoft Defender SmartScreen may show Windows protected your PC.

That warning is expected for this release. It does not by itself tell you whether a file is safe, so verify that you have the expected package before continuing.

The release ZIP should contain:

Songcards_0.0.8_x64-setup.exe
README.txt
SHA256SUMS.txt

Verify the installer¶

First confirm that the filename is exactly:

Songcards_0.0.8_x64-setup.exe

Then compare the installer's SHA-256 hash with the value supplied in SHA256SUMS.txt.

From PowerShell in the folder containing the installer:

Get-FileHash .\Songcards_0.0.8_x64-setup.exe -Algorithm SHA256

The long hexadecimal value returned by PowerShell should match the value beside the installer filename in SHA256SUMS.txt.

If it does not match, do not run that copy of the installer.

Install Songcards¶

Run:

Songcards_0.0.8_x64-setup.exe

If SmartScreen appears:

1. Check the installer filename again.
2. Select More info.
3. Windows will show additional information, including the unknown publisher status.
4. Choose Run anyway if you have verified the package and want to continue.
5. Complete the installer normally.

After installation, start Songcards from Windows.

Songcards does not require a Songcards account, cloud library or network connection for normal desktop use.

First launch¶

A fresh installation can start with an empty library. Create a Songcard with New Songcard, give it a title, and add the information you want to keep.

The working library is stored locally, so make a full backup once you have data you care about. See Getting started and Backup & restore.

Updating or reinstalling¶

Do not use the installer itself as a backup strategy.

Before making changes to an installation that contains important Songcards, export a fresh full backup and store it somewhere safe.

Uninstalling¶

Use the normal Windows Installed apps / Apps & features controls to uninstall Songcards.

If you may want the library later, create and verify a full backup before uninstalling.
