Backup and restore

Back up before something goes wrong.

Local-first gives you control. Songcards 0.0.8 gives you backup, restore and portability tools so that control is practical.

Full backup is the safety copy.

A full Songcards JSON backup is the complete backup format for the local library. Markdown and catalogue exports are useful portability workflows, not replacements for a full backup.

  • Full backup: complete Songcards JSON backup
  • Merge restore: bring backup data into the existing library
  • Replace restore: deliberately replace the current local library
  • Portable export: Markdown / Obsidian and catalogue export workflows

Merge restore

Bring backup data into the current library without deliberately replacing the whole local library first.

Portable export

Markdown / Obsidian and catalogue export help you move readable records, but they do not replace a complete backup habit.

Replace is destructive to the current local library.

When uncertain, create a fresh backup first. Replace restore should be a deliberate recovery action, not an experiment.
